Asthma

Asthma in Utah
Asthma cases are rising nationwide and Utah is no exception. Nearly eight percent of Utahns have asthma, including 73,000 children. Asthma causes the normal function of the airways to become excessive and over-reactive. This obstructs the airways, causes chest tightness, coughing and wheezing.

Asthma affects young children and adults. Patty Edwards, wife of former BYU football coach LaVell Edwards, has asthma.

“I am careful about my environmental situations and I take my medication each day. Asthma has not limited me because I have taken control,” she said in an annual report.

"We are passionate about helping the ALA with their fight against ASTHMA; especially children with asthma. We know first hand that asthma can kill and that everyone must learn how serious and debilitating this disease can be. We are tired of hearing, "Oh you have asthma" like it's nothing more than a cold with a simple remedy of an inhaler!"
